Helping haemophilia, heroes and more

Raising over £30,000 for patient charities

A team of around 30 cyclists from Baxalta cycled from London to Paris to raise money for a number of patient charities in 2015.

The team took part in the event to support the Irish and UK Haemophilia Societies, UK PIPS (United Kingdom Primary Immune-deficiency Patient Support), PID UK (Primary Immunodeficiency UK) UK and Rarer Cancers UK.

Baxalta UK Managing Director, Nicole Farmer said, “Our purpose was to improve the lives of the patients we serve, and this ride gave us the opportunity to support our main patient groups. It also inspired our people to achieve something that maybe they didn’t think was possible – and have some fun along the way.”

Sports wheelchairs for Help for Heroes

The UK Baxalta team took part in a team building session where they built 8 sports wheelchairs for UK military charity Help for Heroes, which was founded in 2007 to support injured servicemen and women and their families.

The sports wheelchairs will help in rehabilitation for those who have had their lives dramatically altered by injury while in service.

The eight teams had to undertake a number of challenges to 'win' parts and then assemble the wheelchairs which will be used at one of the rehabilitation centres in the South of England.

Nicole Farmer, UK Managing Director said, “As we have so many new team members who have joined the Baxalta organisation in the last year we wanted to use the opportunity of having everyone together to hold a team building exercise. We also wanted to do something that aligned to our core value of having a passion for improving lives. Everyone fully enjoyed the event and we look forward to seeing the chairs in action soon.”
